Listening to Jonathan McReynolds song "Comparison Kills" and filling out quote bids to sell photography gear that I brought following other people. Gear that I used only one time that is now collecting dust and taking up space. I am clearing out the clutter of things that I now I know that I do not need to run my business. I was doing things trying to set myself apart from all the other photographers. Yet, I am already set apart because I am me! Following other photographers blueprints of what made their business successful is not going to work for me because that was their path, not mine. I own my business journey!
I also know that I need to stop comparing my business to other photographers on social media because who highlights their failures on social media?
I had to change my mindset and stop treating my business like a hobby. God showed me how I was getting in my own way. My habit of perfectionism which leads to procrastinating which spirals into self-doubt and indecision which evolves into distraction and comparison. There are no perfect conditions and that is why I never got anything done. I was letting my doubt be my kryptonite to my destiny.
After reading Believe Bigger by Marshawn Evans Daniels I pray two simple prayers from her book that I wrote down for my use:
Get a Bigger Vision
God, please give me a bigger vision for my life. Help me to believe that my purpose is bigger than what I understand, and to trust that your view of me and my future is bigger than what I externally see. God show me your bigger vision for me. Show me the higher version of me.
Speak What I Seek
Lord, help me to speak what I see until I see what I've said. I give you thanks for the manifestation of this vision already in progress. Give me wisdom, humility, and certainty as I make room for what you've said is for me to become, have, and do.
My 2019 measurable goals are on display in my office so I can see them daily.
- Shoot 30 sessions this year with females
- Network at at least 5 events
- Host an event to kick off my boudoir brand
- Attend the Black Female Vision Conference in Seattle, Washington
- Increase my average sell to $950 per session
- DEBT free business
My purpose in my business is help woman see their own beauty and worth because we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. And my definition of success will not look like anyone else!
